Deborah Kerly
The Broadway Series

Deborah Kerly is a local artist who has had a long career in the art field; in the past, working as a designer in Los Angeles and currently, teaching art at Palm Beach Community College in Boca Raton, as well as serving as an artist consultant for Liquitex. Kerly received her MFA in painting from Florida State University and her BFA with honors from Florida Atlantic University. Her work has been in numerous regional and local juried art exhibitions, including the Hortt and the Museum of Art in Ft. Lauderdale and the All Florida Show at the Boca Raton Museum or Art.

Kerly has been describe as a Social Realist painter who counts among her influences such artists as Vincent Van Gogh, Edward Hopper, Max Beckman and Lucian Freud. Kerly is interested in depicting human nature in all its glory: revealing its creations - architecture and pathos - the portraits of extraordinary people. The Broadway series was inspired by the plight of West Palm's street called "Broadway" and revolves around two distinct themes: the unique character of the retro buildings and the diverse cultural makeup of the people who represent the resilient spirit of the Northwood Community. Each work from the series is painted on a box format, and along with a high key palette and strong diagonal composition, reinforces the three-dimensional effect of pulling the viewer into each and every image.

The Broadway Series is on permanent exhibit at the Sunset Bar & Grill.
